Use it or Lose it theory ....

I have often heard during various different work-related training courses the phrase 'use it or lose it'. The same theory applies to the working artist, particularly when it relates to the mundane administrative side of the business.  After a recent Business Gateway course on Online Marketing, I have been working for the last two days on updating my current website and setting up a new online gallery with Artweb.  I have been 'using' this new-found knowledge in the hope that I will not 'lose' it too quickly.  I am trying to get as much done as possible before getting back to the current art project - more on that in another blog.

So far so good on the IT side of things.  It is taking me much longer than anticipated to re-vamp my website but then there is such a lot on there and I am not the speediest of learners now that I am over the .... age bracket.  I am in the process of slimming down my website, making it more accessible and less cluttered.  I am also trying to increase awareness on the web of what art I am making, hence some new online galleries will be appearing shortly.

The Online Marketing course was excellent, especially as I ended up having a two and a half hour session on a 1-2-1 basis with the tutor.  His advice was to get as much online presence as possible to raise the awareness and make more sales.  The tutor was eager to point out that quality of presence is just as important as quantity. Hence I have been re-structuring and setting up various web profiles. Unfortunately, tomorrow I will have to shift my focus away from my new-found skills .  Hopefully I will not lose the knowledge gained over these past couple of days.
